St. Paul Porter
Tonight’s beer: St. Paul Porter
Due to an oversight last week no ingredients were ordered for this week. Thankfully we had the St. Paul Porter (It’s not a Sout DJ!) on hand so iinto the kettle it goes. Late start tonight, 9:22 the grains are going in. Jason got distracted typing this and missed the grain pull by 2 minutes so at 9:39 they finally came out and the propane was cranked up to start the boil. The boil started at 10??
General evening notes:
Late start but not too late. Matt got the EFI setup for his rail unpacked starting another side project tonight as well. Minor keg problem. We’re not drinking fast enough this year and brewing too often. Four kegs are in the fridge (Cherry Stout, California Common, Holiday Cheer, Grand Cru) and that’s all we used to have. DJ brought three new kegs, unfortunatly two are pinlock and we had to steal a seal from the third to replace the seal which is currently in the bottom of one of the above four. Eventually Matt found a new seal somewhere in our parts collection so DJ’s third donor keg will be filled with Maibock tonight. The kegerator hates Jason. Matt swapped to the Cherry stout which clogged, Jason swapped it to the Common for Rox which then clogged as well. At that point Jason tried every possible combo of hose, connector and keg and nothing would flow. Matt came back, and the stout started flowing first try. The kegerator hates Jason.
Update: I went for one last beer at the end of the night and found the problem. The beer is frozen!!! The kegerator is only 20 degrees. Weird since it has been high 30’s since Mark fixed it. I unplugged it and will need to have Mark take another look. Matt.
