Double brew: Cream Ale & Scottish 80/-
Tonights Beer 1: Cream Ale (Northern Brewer kit)
Tonights Beer 2: Scottish 80/- (Northern Brewer kit)
Last week Nick wanted to do the Cream Ale this week. J and Jason both had ideas on heavier beers we wanted but my idea required a partial mash so we decided to give it an extra week to prepare equipment and do J’s 80/- wish this week.
J helped me bring the partially converted keg’s for our new mash tun and brew kettle over and he’ll be taking over finishing the false bottom. Tonights brewing is somewhat low key, Deej stopped by for a bit but is feeling under the weather so didn’t stay. The rest of the regulars are a little burned out from a busy weekend and the energy level is a little low.
Mark and I help bring the energy level up a bit with a pulse jet engine demonstration but after breaking the first one Rox wasn’t big on us doing any more demos.
The two brews are going fairly uneventufully. Got started around 9ish and it’s looking like two smooth brews. In the kitchen however racking and kegging is a bit busy this week. Chuck and Nick are heading up those tasks. The Belgian Dubble is still bubbling in seconday so we opted NOT to keg it this week and instead give it a second week in secondary. The other transfers have to happen early because we need a second primary fermentor freed up for the second brew tonight.
As a result Chucks Sweet Stout was the first to get racked into secondary. Following that my Irish Draught II went into a keg while the fermentor from the stout is washed.
At the end of the night the fermentor/keg status is:
In Primary: Cream Ale and Scottish 80/-
In Secondary: Sweet Stout and Belgian Dubble
Carbonating: Irish Draught I and Irish Draught II
On Tap: Nicks American Wheat and J’s Oatmeal brown
